When the circus comes to town one of the most anticipated acts is the spider-like aerialist. Aerialists can train under coaches for 2 or more years before going pro. In the mid-2010s a resurgance of aerial silk classes emerged bringing the mysterious circus art close to the general public.If you live in a major city you can probably enroll in a beginner aerial silks class. Aerial silk classes are usually held at large warehouse-like facilities or small yoga/dance studios. Classes can range from $25-$50.
2. Lyra/Trapeze πͺ

Most aerial silk studios also offer Lyra and Trapeze classes. Lyra is a suspended hoop apararatus. And the trapeze is suspended “pull-up like” bar. Usually, if you start one circus aerial art, it is natural to transition into another circus aerial art.
3. Circus Classes π€ΉββοΈ

Circus classes can range from aerial arts, mime classes, fire-spitting, juggling, and more. If you have had the itch to run away with the circus, there is hope for your dreams. Unfortunately, many circus companies have faced great financial hardships that have been worsened by recent global events. Keep the circus and the various circus arts alive.
4. Creative Ribbon Dance π

Creative ribbon dance is a combination of rhythmic gymnastics, contemporary dance, and improvisation. This art form is not strenuous on the body and requires developed upper-body mobility.Creative ribbon dance is a diverse art form as you can mold your style from ballet to hip-hop, to rave, and beyond.
5. Modern Dance π

Oxford Dictorner refers to modern dance as: A free, expressive style of dancing started in the early 20th century as a reaction to classical balletIt is common to confuse modern dance with contemporary dance. Modern dance is a diverse, comprehensive, sub-genre of dance that focuses on body control and kinesthetic awareness. Some consider modern dance “the opposite of ballet.”Unlike ballet, modern dance focuses on natural body movement, which is healthier for your physical health in the long haul than other forms of exercise.
6. Cross Fit ποΈββοΈ

Cross Fit is a boot camp fitness program the fuses elements of gymnastics, calisthenics, body building, and more. Cross Fit is a rigorous (and intimidating) exercise program, many swear by. It isn’t uncommon to develop a Cross Fit addiction and to obsess over the workout program. If you are looking to ease tension, see skill growth, and body transformation, Cross Fit might be for you.
7. Pole Dance π€Έ

Pole dance is a controversial style of dance depicted as both empowering and discriminating to those who practice. I have personally enrolled in 2 pole dance programs and must say, pole dance is easily my favorite form of dance. Pole dance is perfect for athletic adults with a competitive streak, unlike gymnastics which discouraged older competitors, pole dance competitions are held globally for participants of all ages. Who knows you might be the next world champ.

8. Hula Hoopingπ¦

When you think of hula hooping you might think of raves, gym class, pregnancy, belly dance. Hula hooping is on the rise and an excellent form of exercise that improves cardio-endurance and core strength.
9. Contortion π₯¨

Let’s clear this up now. Contortion is not yoga. The world is dry of qualified contortion instructors. This art form is the skillful execution of extreme stretches and poses that emphasizes flexibility and mobility. Some cringe at the sight of a contortionist other awe. It can be difficult to come across a contortion class, but if you get the chance you should check out a class. Most instructors are prepared to work with absolute beginners and have plenty of regression in their arsenal.
10. Theatre Classes π

Sanford Meisner describes acting as “Acting truthfully under imaginary circumstances.” Most who act start with the goals of landing on television or broadway. Many find themselves constantly seeking new opportunities to connect with other humans and share vivid stories. Acting has taught me valuable life skills such as:
- Projecting when you speak.
- Having a confident body language.
- Being emotionally vulnerable.
If you’re new to theatre my advice is to embrace the nerves and dare to make bold decisions.
11. Yoga/Pilates π§ββοΈ

The exercise mediums of the century! Yoga and Pilates are two mind body exercise practices praised for improving your overall health in a user freidnly format. You had to have heard of Yoga and Pilates, if you haven’t taken a class yet, what are you waiting for!?!
12. Rock Climbing π§ββοΈ

For brave outdoor lovers rock climber is sure to satisfy your need for adventure and adrenaline. Indoor rock climbing courses allow you to practice the skill safely and when its time you can move on to the real thing.
13. Heels/Burlesque π

Feeling sassy and confident is inevitable in a heels or burlesque class. In the mid-2010s artist like Yanis Marshall had every teen and adult busting out heels to join in the latest dance craze. Though not in the spotlight, the novelty and empowerment of heels classes is well and alive.
14. Ice Skating βΈ

Who wouldn’t want to fly across the ice with metal blades? Ice skating about embracing your inner Elsa…or Mighty Duck. For those who seek grace, you should lean towards figure skating and those with grit should consider ice hockey.
15. Roller Blading πΌ

Rollerblading was popularized in the ’70s and has recently made a resurgence in 2020. When you rollerblade you are improving your sense of balance, cardio, kinesthetic/spatial awareness, plus your cool level goes up a notch.
16. Martial Arts π₯

Martial art is a general term for multiple disciplines of “fighting arts.” Most martial arts are intended to be practiced recreationally and help you train your mind and body rather than self-defense skills.Martial arts is terrific for athletes who want to boost their fast witch muscles.
17. Swimming πββοΈ

Swimming is one of the most beneficial forms of exercise. If you have a fear of water, start swimming at a local community center that will have a “shallow side.” With the supervision and guidance of a swim coach, you will gain your fins in no time. If you are passionate about swimming, you should look into becoming lifeguard certified. Not only can you make a couple of extra bucks over the summer, but you might also save a life in the future.
18. Ballet π©°

Never let your ballet dreams fade. Ballet is for all! Most dance studios offer adult ballet classes some ranging during the day and others late at night. Adult ballet – similar to barre fitness classes – will help you one your muscles while challenging your brain and artistry.
